The mission of the Latina Committee is to foster the inclusion and advancement of Latinas within Los Abogados and the broader legal profession. We are committed to creating opportunities for professional and leadership development, building spaces for connection and mutual support, and providing recommendations to the Los Abogados Board of Directors that help advance this work.
Goals
Professional and Leadership Development
Offer programs and resources that support the professional growth and leadership development of Latina members.
Networking and Support
Organize meetings, lunches, coffee meetups, and special events that build strong relationships, mentorship, and community among Latinas.
Advocacy and Recognition
Celebrate the achievements of Latinas in the legal profession and advocate for policies and practices that support their continued success.
Meetings
The Latina Committee aims to meet at least eight times each year through a mix of committee meetings, casual meetups, and at least one committee-sponsored Continuing Legal Education (CLE) session. These gatherings help strengthen relationships, encourage mentorship, and create space for community among members.
Recognition
We are proud to recognize the accomplishments of Latinas in the legal profession by celebrating professional milestones, sharing achievements, and highlighting trailblazers in our community. By lifting up these success stories, we inspire one another and help create clearer paths for future leadership.
Board Recommendations
The committee helps shape Los Abogados’ policies and priorities by offering recommendations that reflect the needs, experiences, and perspectives of Latinas. Through this work, we help ensure those perspectives are represented and addressed within the organization.
Anti-Harassment
The Latina Committee is committed to supporting a safe and respectful professional environment. We offer policy recommendations to the Board and continue to examine ways Los Abogados can respond thoughtfully and effectively to harassment in the workplace and throughout the legal profession.
Contributions to Los Abogados’ Overall Goals
The Latina Committee advances Los Abogados’ broader mission to promote diversity and advocate for the Latino community in the legal profession. By strengthening networks of support and championing inclusive policies and practices, the committee helps create meaningful and lasting change for Latina attorneys.
